I’ve been putting in some extra time at the office recently and it’s made me think about something. As I look back on life, what is it that I will remember the most? The extra time I put into a project at work or time with my family. When my daughter Ashlee was younger, she took an interest in the show “Little House on the Prairie”. I remembered the show back in the 1970’s and had watched many episodes but was not a big fan of the TV show back then. Well we bought the DVD’s of the TV show and started a family night. We would usually sit down on a Friday or Saturday night and watch a few episodes. It’s amazing how those are the moments that stand out when you look back on life.
My pastor, Steve Ramsdell pointed out in a sermon one time that God gives us an amazing proposal and invitation to intimacy. From the beginning in Genesis 1:26-28 to the end in Revelation 21:6-7, He understands our needs and wants. The focus is on a relationship and sometimes we need to slow down and smell the roses. Stop and take a picture of the bluebonnets.
Billy Graham was quoted to say the following, “The word romance, according to the dictionary, means, excitement, adventure, and something extremely real. Romance should last a lifetime”. When I was single, the guys in a small group at my church made lasagna from scratch for the single girls of that group and planned a dinner for them on Valentine’s Day. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or what but about four or five marriages were produced from that group.
It’s not only looking back to the past for memories but looking forward to building memories for the future. We need to be renewed by dreaming about spending time with the one we love. There’s nothing that can spark up romance like a good song. The travel agency called Sandels had a TV commercial with the song "I’ve Had the Best Time of My Life"playing as they show romantic getaways with music, white sandy beaches, and luxurious dinning.
