People watch everything we do so it is important to maintain our integrity. In the business world, integrity makes us good representatives of our company and helps retain customers. Integrity also helps to gain respect in the public’s eye. People watch how we treat others, how we dress, how we take care of ourselves and our property. Like a compass, integrity is what we can use to keep us on track and headed in the right direction.
Integrity Makes Us Good Representatives
It always seems to be at the worst of times to call but I can count on a telemarketer calling my house between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM either to interrupt my dinner or the study time of my daughter as she does her homework.
What is it that I dislike most about telemarketing? It is that almost all are high pressure. They want to push you into something you may not want or need. They want you to make a decision without having all the facts. There may be some that are professional and bring integrity to the company they represent but most I have come across are downright dishonest and deceitfully try to entice me into buying. Now if a telemarketer was simply trying to promote their product and was not high pressure – that would be different.
Back in the 1950’s, there was a show called “Leave it to Beaver”, and I remember watching reruns while I was growing up. One of the characters named Eddy Haskell reminds me of a telemarketer. He would say he could do almost anything but really couldn’t. On the other hand, Wally was the character that could do good things but didn’t think it worthwhile to tell you. I think our society respects those who are humble and have integrity like Wally.
Integrity Gains Us Respect in the Public Eye
During the baseball season of 2006, a professional baseball player named Barry Bonds was breaking home run records. For most athletes, this would be a time of praise and people would be showing a lot of interest. The only thing is he was caught up in allegations of steroid use and no one seemed to care about the records he was breaking. This shows that even if you reach greatness, it doesn’t have the same significance if you have to break the rules to get there. The lesson is to be patient and have confidence in God to set things up for you. Then you will achieve greatness along with significance.
There are many other lessons to help explain what integrity does for us found in God’s Word. For building integrity in God’s power, there is an on-line devotional I’m using to keep me on track. I invite you to join the journey or check in from time to time for some inspiration. You can like or follow at any of the links below and be notified of new posts.
