The Power of Words

Words can connect
Or they can redirect.
Take time to associate
So it’s easier to negotiate.

Use words that persuade
So it can be conveyed
That it’s about them.
They are a gem.

Explain the subject
So others will interject.
Open hearts and minds.
It takes all kinds.

Ask many questions.
Offer suggestions.
Questions invite exploration.
Suggestions encourage affirmation.

Explain where you’ve been
And next steps with a grin.
Explain where you are going;
The next steps to growing.

Tell what isn’t effective.
Be very reflective.
Point out results.
Treat all like adults.

Give positive feedback.
Use lots of tact.
Talk about their strength.
Affirm with words at length.

About Mark Shields

Mark works in the Information Systems Department for an Insurance Company. He volunteers as a member of the media ministry team at his church and runs the 10:50 worship service computer. A few years ago, he started an on-line Bible study guide called “This Day with God Devotional”. He uses this as a tool in his journey through the Bible. We live in a very busy world with busy schedules so this tool has helped him continue with daily Bible reading and study. You’re invited to join him on this journey or check in every so often to read his thoughts.
